All Inspections

During a routine inspection

We found that Allied Healthcare assessed people's needs and developed comprehensive care plans and risk assessments in conjunction with people who used the service and, if appropriate, their families. People we spoke with were generally satisfied with the personal care provided. One person said, 'I am happy with my [care] package at the moment'. However, some concern was expressed about the standard of domestic care provided by some members of staff.

There were close working relationships with the local authority and we noted that there were systems in place to help monitor the quality of the service. When we spoke with staff members they were knowledgeable about safeguarding procedures and there were up-to-date policies to guide them in most areas of their work. There was evidence of good practice in relation to medication administration.

During a routine inspection

All the people who used the service and their relatives or friends whom we spoke with talked positively about the service. They told us that care workers were 'respectful' and trustworthy. People told us that they were involved in the assessment of their needs and development of their care plans. They said the staff the agency provided were 'perfect'. A person told us that they 'wanted to keep' the care worker. This indicated that the staff the agency provided met the people's needs by establishing a good relationship with them.

The files for the people who used the service showed that care plans were completed and risk assessments were undertaken. We noted that the agency had a staffing structure and systems in place for updating and monitoring of care plans. People who used the service and records indicated that care workers were matched to people by taking their preferences such as gender and culture into account. This ensured people received care that reflected their wishes and met their needs.

The recruitment processes of the agency were robust and each care worker was vetted and trained. This ensured that the people who used the service were safe.
