All Inspections

During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with said that their privacy and dignity was respected at Derwent House and they were helped to express their views. One person told us, 'If we want something we ask'we're our own boss.' Staff respected their personal preferences and people thought that their needs were met.

People gave us mixed views on the value of activities offered. We found that activities were not consistently provided.

Care plans were worded so as to provide staff with a clear guide to meeting people's needs. However, we could not be sure that all staff were aware of the current risks to which people were exposed.

People told us they felt safe at Derwent House. The majority of staff had received training that kept people safe.

People had concerns over whether there were enough staff to meet their needs. One person said, 'They're short staffed'[there are] only two on at night.' Staff shared these concerns.

People were asked for their views and comments that they made were acted on. One person told us, '[managers] try to sort things out."
