All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People who used the service told us they were included in decisions about their care. For example one person told us,' I decide what I do during the day but sometimes there's not much on." A staff member told us 'some people leave the door in the morning and stay out all day. It all depends. A lot of it is to do with funding.'

The people who used the service were positive about the staff and the way they were supported by them. We asked one person if they thought that there was enough staff on duty, including at weekends. They told us that they thought there was sufficient staff to care for them safely.

People told us they knew how to make a complaint and were confident the manager would resolve any complaint they had. People told us the staff often asked them about the service they received. One person told us, 'I would tell the manager if I wasn't happy.' Another person told us 'I would walk away."

Health and safety audits and risk assessments were completed about the use of the premises and equipment. Other checks included fire equipment checks, portable appliance tests, electrical checks and an office risk assessment.

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we were able to speak with seven of the nine people who lived at the home. We were also able to speak with four members of staff and the provider.

People we spoke with were very happy with the care that they received. Comments included 'Everything suits us very well,' 'I feel well looked after' and 'I'd like to say a big thank you for the way that I'm supported.'

People said that the staff arranged for them to see healthcare professionals according to their individual needs. We were told that people saw healthcare professionals to monitor their mental and physical health. One person said 'The staff encourage me to take the doctor's advice but at the end of the day it's up to me.'

Everyone said that they were able to make decisions about their day to day lives. One person told us 'They like me to tell them when I'm going out but apart from that I can do as I please.' Another person said 'It feels like home.'

People were very aware of their care and support plans and one person commented; 'My key worker goes through the care plan with me; I can change it if I'm not happy with it.' This demonstrated that people were involved in the planning of their care and treatment.

We observed that people were very relaxed and comfortable with the staff who supported them. Everyone asked said that they felt safe at the home. One person said 'I feel very safe here' another person commented 'Staff are lovely and very kind.'

People told us that they would be comfortable to make a complaint if they were unhappy about any aspect of their care. One person told us 'I wouldn't be frightened to complain I know they would sort things out.'

People were very complimentary about the staff who worked at the home. We were told 'Staff are excellent, they are caring and take trouble to make sure everything is to your liking.'
