During an assessment of Diagnostic imaging

The assessment was conducted on 12 August 2026. We rated the service as good.

The service had made improvements and is no longer in breach of regulations. The assessment found effective systems for incident reporting, safeguarding, staffing, governance, and patient-centred care, supported by overwhelmingly positive patient feedback.

Areas of concern identified during the assessment included managers receiving insufficient safeguarding training and some shortcomings in infection prevention and control, specifically related to the cleanliness of ultrasound equipment and storage areas.

However, the provider responded promptly by completing enhanced safeguarding training and immediately addressing cleaning issues, demonstrating a proactive approach to learning and improvement.

At the previous assessment the service was in breach of regulations relating to good governance, fit and proper persons employed and safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment. At this assessment, the service was not in breach of any regulations.

During an assessment of the hospital overall

Date of assessment: 12 August 2026.

The Mary How Trust is an independent healthcare service registered to provide diagnostic and screening services. It offers nurse-led health screening appointments for people who are not experiencing symptoms and are not currently under investigation by their GP. These appointments include blood tests, an electrocardiogram (ECG), pulse and blood pressure measurements, urine testing, and bowel screening. Patients are also provided with advice and guidance to support and improve their general health and wellbeing. The service also provides ultrasound screening appointments, including abdominal ultrasounds and pelvic ultrasounds for women. Access to the service is available through a voluntary payment model, with contributions based on everyone’s financial ability to pay.

The service was previously assessed in 2021 under a predecessor registration and was rated requires improvement. At that assessment, CQC identified breaches of regulations relating to good governance, fit and proper persons employed, and safeguarding service users from abuse and improper treatment. This assessment looked at diagnostic imaging, which we rated as good. This is the only assessment service group for this provider.

The rating of The Mary How Trust has changed to good. At this assessment we identified no breaches of regulations.
