Our current view of the service
Updated
30 April 2025
This assessment was carried out between 30 April 2025 and 15 May 2025. We visited the home on 6 May 2025.
AutismWessex - Middle Path is a residential care home for up to 4 people who are autistic or who have other complex needs. The home comprises of the main house, which accommodates 3 people and an attached 1 bedroom annexe. There were 4 people living at the home when we visited.
This was a responsive assessment prompted by concerns we had received. These related to quality statements contained within the safe and well led domains. We therefore assessed all of the relevant quality statements which related to these concerns.
We met and spoke with all 4 people who lived at the home. We also spoke with the home manager, 1 team leader, 1 director and 4 members of staff. Following our visit, we sought and received feedback from 4 relatives and 4 health and social care professionals who work with the service.
We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People confirmed they liked the staff who supported them. Two people said “Yes” when we asked if they liked staff. We saw many examples of kind, patient and compassionate care and support being provided when we visited.
People’s relatives spoke highly of staff, both in relation to the care they provided and their caring nature. People were able to express to us they felt safe and happy living at the home. One relative said, “We do feel the home is a safe place for [name] to live. On the whole we believe staff are kind, patient and respectful.”
People, relatives, staff and professionals had improved confidence in the management of the service since the new manager had been in post.
Professionals who supported people's care were very complimentary about people's care and support, the staff team and their approach and the homely atmosphere. One told us, “From my observation, the care provided is of an excellent standard, with staff displaying warmth, compassion, and professionalism in all they do. It is evident that the team is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.”
People and their relatives were involved in the service and their views were acted upon. Communication and engagement with relatives had significantly improved. Relatives hoped this would now continue.
