Supporting people to live healthier lives

The provider supported people to manage their health and wellbeing to maximise their independence, choice and control. Staff supported people to live healthier lives and where possible, reduce their future needs for care and support.

People and relatives told us staff arranged for people to see health professionals, when required. A relative said, “They know [person] well by now and are able to help them in the best way possible.”

Care records documented the engagement people had with health care professionals and advice and recommendations were incorporated into care plans and followed by staff.

The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. Staff understood the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and associated codes of practice. The provider was working within the principles of the MCA. People’s capacity to make specific decisions were assessed and best interest decisions were made on their behalf when appropriate. People made their own choices and daily decisions such as what they wore, what they ate and how they spent their time.
