During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

We carried out this desk top review following our inspection on 24 June 2011. On this inspection we found that the provider was not notifying us about some of the incidents and injuries that had been happening in the home. Following the inspection, the provider sent us written evidence to show that staff had been informed of the process to report notifications. Additionally the provider has recently notified CQC of relevant incidents as required by the regulations.

We spoke with five of the people using the service and all were satisfied with the care they received.

Comments made by people using the service included:

"This is the best care home in the country. The staff have love for us and they look after us".

"The staff respect me and treat us all equally".

"Everything's fine here".

We spoke with a relative of one of the people using the service. They told us "It's a wonderful home. I have no concerns at all. The staff are lovely".

People were involved in planning their own care and in planning menus and activities.

People using the service told us they felt safe and staff knew what to do if they witnessed or suspected any form of abuse.

Staff were trained and there were sufficient numbers of staff available to meet people's needs. We saw that staff talked to people with respect and had an understanding of their needs.

The provider had a robust quality assurance system in place and regularly checked the quality of all aspects of the service, including asking people for their views.

We found that the service had improved since our last inspection visit.

We asked people about their opinion of the service and we received positive feedback from all.

One person told us "This is the best home in the business. I am enjoying my stay".

Another person told us " My key worker is great- she tells me when it's time for my bath!".

Another person told us " It's marvellous here- the people, the food, the beds and furniture. The staff are helpful if you need something, a chat, a laugh and a joke, some shopping. I feel safe living here".

A health professional who visits some of the people living in the home spoke positively about the service being provided. There had been improvement in communication with health professionals and better support for people using the service.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they liked the meals served in the home. One person told us that they rated the quality of meals as ten out of ten. We saw that there were tea and coffee making facilities available at all times and people told us that staff would help if they wanted a snack at night. The cultural and dietary needs of people living in the home had been considered when planning the menu and the home's kitchen had been awarded a five star certificate for food hygiene.

Some people told us that they were happy living in the home and satisfied with the service provided. One person told us, 'It's a very good service and the staff are lovely. Everything is fine'. We saw that others were less inclined to communicate with staff offer their views about the service.
