During an inspection looking at part of the service

During this inspection we did not speak with any of the people who use the service. We visited Amadeus House to follow up on a compliance action we issued in relation to the training and support that staff received for their work. This was due to us finding at

our inspection on the 5 July 2013 that the service did not provide induction, training and supervision to the staff. This put people who use the service at risk of inappropriate care and support from the staff.

At this inspection we found that improvements had been made to ensure that the staff, including bank staff, received induction, training and regular supervision in their work to enable staff to support people with their needs.

5 July 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of our inspection there were six people using the service. During our visit we met with three people who use the service and the two staff who were on duty. The people who use the service declined to talk to us about the service and the support they received.

We observed that people were able to spend their time as they wished, and the staff were kind and respectful when they spoke with them. In the care records we saw that people were involved in identifying their needs and the support they wanted from the staff.

We also found that staff did not receive training in areas such as fire safety and moving and handling. Bank staff did not receive an induction to the service. This did not ensure that people were supported by appropriately supervised and trained staff.

During a routine inspection

People said they were involved in making decisions about their treatment and that staff were approachable and provided support for them to progress towards regaining their independence. People confirmed staff treated them with respect and were happy with the way the staff supported them. One person said the staff were 'thoughtful and warm people'.

People said the staff were supportive and encouraged them to join in the activity programme. One person said 'staff work in the right way to provide help and support and encourage us to get involved with things house based and outside.' People confirmed they were able to go out of the service when they wanted to and were encouraged and supported to regain their independence.

People confirmed they felt safe at the service and could talk to staff about any concerns that might arise. People told us there were staff available for them to speak with and to support them during the day.

At the time of our visit there were three people using the service, and we spoke with two of them and with three staff.
