All Inspections

4 December 2013

During a routine inspection

We inspected the agency office and spoke on the telephone with 14 people who used the agency and two relatives of people who used the agency. We were also spoke with a registered provider, a registered manager, a training manager, a field care supervisor and a care co-ordinator. We also spoke with three staff who provided care to people.

We found people had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment. People expressed their views on how they wanted to maintain their independence. Staff we spoke with told us how they supported people in their choices.

We found consent had been obtained from people before care and treatment had been provided. We spoke with one person who used the service who told us that staff: 'Never did anything they did not want'. Staff we spoke with told us they respected people's individual choices and decisions.

People were complimentary about the care they received. One person told us: 'They are great'. Another person we spoke with told us: 'I would be lost without them'. A relative we spoke with said: 'They are wonderful, they are always on time. They do exactly what X (relative) wants'.

We found that the provider supported their staff and made sure staff were trained to an appropriate standard to meet people's needs. The provider held regular supervisions with staff and appraised staff annually.

We found the provider had an effective process in place that monitored the quality of the service they provided.

8 November 2012

During a routine inspection

The service employed approximately 70 care staff and provided care to 180 people.

We spoke with two people who used the service. One person said about the service 'very good, all staff are good'. Another person said that they were 'satisfied with the service' and that it was 'very, very good'.

We found that people's preferences were known by the provider and its staff and that people's independence was promoted. When we spoke with care staff they demonstrated that they knew people's care needs and we saw that guidance was in place in care plan records to support the delivery of care.

People who used the service were safeguarded from possible abuse as there were systems in place to identify any instances of abuse and to make sure that concerns were appropriately reported. We found that the provider had made sure that staff were suitable to work with people who used the service by making the necessary checks before their employment contract commenced.

We found that the provider invited feedback from people who used the service and monitored the quality of the care it provided to identify and implement improvements.
