All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People with whom we spoke said they liked living in Florence House and they liked the staff. One person said they liked "living in this hotel" and the staff were really good "because they actually talk to you and listen". People said they knew how to make a complaint if they needed to and who to talk to.

All the people with whom we spoke said they really like the food at Florence House, especially all the meals and buffets over Christmas, which were brilliant. Everybody with whom we spoke said they were happy with their rooms.

One person confirmed that they had lived in Florence House for many years and although sometimes they thought about maybe moving into their own flat, they said they were also quite happy staying where they were.

One person with whom we spoke said they were very proud about having a number of their framed paintings on display throughout the home.

Overall, there was a very happy and relaxed atmosphere around the home during this visit.

The Infection Control Nurse told us that the staff in Florence House had greatly improved with regard to infection control, although some staff still needed to be reminded of the need to wear gloves and aprons for all aspects of personal care.

During an inspection in response to concerns

We did not speak with any of the people who live at Florence House about the safety and suitability of the premises during our visit on 24 January 2011, although a number of people were observed, all of whom appeared to be comfortable and content.

A person from Great Yarmouth and Waveney Mental Health Trust told us on 04 February 2011 that good progress was being made in respect of the current refurbishment and redecoration works at Florence House.
