We spoke with ten people using the service. They all stated that they were happy there. One person said, 'I would recommend this home to anyone. I would love to live here but you can't because it's only for respite'. Another person said, 'It's a very nice place to stay. The carers are great. They are very attentive and look after people really well. They work very hard'.

We looked at five care plans during our visit and noted that they were detailed and person centred. The people we spoke with confirmed that they had signed their care plans and were asked for their consent before the carers gave them any assistance.

People had a choice of what they would like to eat at meal times and we noted the food served was nutritious and met individual needs. All of the people we spoke with said that the food was excellent.

We saw that there were enough suitably trained and experienced staff to meet the needs of people using the service. During the visit we observed staff speaking to people in a caring and respectful manner.

Herondale was clean and free from any hazards. We observed health and safety information and saw evidence that staff followed infection control and good hygiene procedures.

The provider had adequate procedures in place to ensure people's records and service records were accurate and kept safe and confidential. We did not have access to the staff records to determine if these were accurate and fit for purpose.

Everyone we talked with spoke warmly about the staff. They were described as wonderful and very friendly. Staff were always about and were seen providing discreet support to people so that their privacy and dignity was protected.

There were several comments made about the food provided at the home. The comments included, 'The food is very good and there is plenty of it', 'There is always a choice and the food is plentiful and hot. They offer you more'.

People said they would like more activities to take place that they could join in with. One person commented, 'There is not always much to do.' Some people took part in a game arranged by the staff looking after the day care clients during the afternoon.
