Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 24 February 2025
Aspen Lodge Care Home is a care home that provides personal care and accommodation for up to 20 people.
At the time of inspection, the service was supporting 19 people.
During this inspection we looked at quality statements under the key questions of safe, caring and well-led to check the provider had followed their action plan to make improvements.
The registered provider and management team had established improvements within the service since our last inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of regulations. The rating has changed from requires improvement (published 24 April 2024) to good.
The service had completed practical tasks on their action plan to ensure the care home environment was safe. Governance systems were operating effectively and had enabled the registered managers to identify further improvements such as developing person-centred care records and developing a new programme to meet the training needs of staff.
People, their relatives, and staff told us the registered managers had created a culture where people and their relatives were listened to, and lessons were learnt to identify and embed good practice. Adverse events were reviewed and actioned by the management team, for example, staff told us of new processes in place to document incidents using an electronic system which prompted a full investigation. This had enabled the management team to make continuous improvements.
The ethos of the staff team was focussed on providing person centred care. Staff consistently demonstrated a good understanding of providing people individualised support and spoke knowledgeably about how people preferred their care and support to be given.
People's experience of this service
People told us they felt safe at Aspen Lodge Care Home and were happy with the care they received. Comments included: “They do everything to keep me safe, they make sure I'm okay and they check on me if I'm in my bedroom”, “The staff are very nice, always here to help”, “It's nice to be treated with respect and we are here”, “I love it here, it's my home now.”
