During a routine inspection

We found that care and support was planned and delivered, in line with people's individual care needs and preferences. One person who used the service told us “The staff are helping me to become independent so that I can move to supported living.” We spoke with one relative who told us, "I can't fault them." The staff we met had a good understanding of the needs of people who used the service.

We found the provider worked in co-operation with other professionals to support people with their health and welfare needs.

The management of medicines was carried out in accordance with safe practices. We saw that there were appropriate arrangements in place to ensure people received prescribed medicines in accordance with their needs.

We found that there was an effective recruitment process in place so people could be confident the right people were employed in the service.

We found that people who used the service and their families were supported to raise any concerns. We saw that concerns were dealt with effectively and in a timely way.

During a routine inspection

We found that all residents had an up to date care plan which showed how they were involved in planning their support. We observed residents engaged in various activities around the home and also a group going out to accompany

one of their number to visit his family. We were told that residents "liked living in the service" and that they "liked the staff". We were told by one resident that they would "speak to the manager" if they were unhappy about anything. We saw the safeguarding policy which was accessible to all staff. We found that staff had appropriate training in safeguarding. We saw that there were enough qualified and experienced staff and that the deployment of staff was flexible to meet individual needs. One resident told us that they "liked the staff".

We found that there is a comprehensive quality monitoring system which was used to set action plans for improvements and was also incorporated in supervision of the manager by the Regional Director.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service gave complimentary feedback about 39 Brickfield Road. They told us they are treated with respect, make decisions about the care they receive, and are able to influence how their home is run.

People are supported to achieve their personal ambitions through ongoing person centred care planning. They told us that they can choose what they want to do regarding how they spend their time and organise their lives.

People told us that they felt safe and could tell staff if they were unhappy about something.

The staff and registered manager have worked at 39 Brickfield Road for a long time and know each person well. Staff told us that they felt well supported and had good training to meet the needs of the people who use the service.
