During a routine inspection

The home is divided into five flats and we visited four of them. We spoke with six people when we visited the home. One person was on holiday and some people were out at day centres. People told us or indicated to us that they were happy living there. One person told us 'I am happy living here and I do lots of things I enjoy'.

Many of the people living in the home have limited verbal communication so we spent time observing care practices and interactions between people and the care staff supporting them.

People's privacy and dignity was respected. We found that care staff spoke with people in a respectful manner and knocked on bedroom and bathroom doors before entering. Interactions between staff and people who lived there were friendly and relaxed.

Staff spoken to were able to tell us about people's needs so that they receive care in a way that they prefer.

People told us and we saw choices offered and that people's views were sought and acted upon.

One person told us if I am not happy about something I speak to the staff. I can just ring the manager in the office and she will come and speak to me.

There was lots of information in the home for people and their relatives to read including safeguarding information, health and safety information and what to do if you had any concerns. Information was available in a style that was easy for people to understand.

Staff were trained in safeguarding procedures. Staff spoken to told us what they would do if they had any concerns about practices in the home. This ensures the well being and safety of people.
