During a routine inspection

People who lived at Lodge Lane Nursing home were positive about the care that they received. We heard comments such as 'I am happy living here'; "I am always asked what I want to do. I am never made to do anything that I don't want to do'; 'I like it here. It is kept lovely and clean' and 'The staff are always pleasant.' We found that people were cared for and supported in a caring and dignified manner.

We found that the service was in the process of introducing a new system for care records. This had resulted in some poor practice being identified within some of the records that we checked. We were assured by the manager that the records concerned would be re-typed by the end of September 2013.

We found that there was a safe system in place for ordering, storing, administering and disposing of medicines.

The records that we checked showed that the service had effective recruitment procedures in place that helped to ensure that people who were not suitable to work with vulnerable adults were not employed within the service.

There was a wide range of checks and systems in place to monitor the quality of care and support provided by the service. We saw evidence to show that this information was used to improve the quality of the care and support that people received.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us that they had a choice of lifestyle whilst living at Lodge Lane. They told us that they always had a choice of what they wished to do during their day. People's comments included 'people ask us about our care', 'you can always ask for something different to eat' and 'you can have a choice of food from the menu but if you don't fancy it they will do something different if you tell them by 11am.'

People told us that they felt safe living at Lodge Lane. They told us that they would speak to the staff or the manager if they were not happy or were concerned about something.

People who use the service told us that they were happy with the standard of care they received. Their comments included 'people ask us about our care', 'I am happy here', 'staff are very good' and 'the manager is very approachable.'
