All Inspections

28 February 2013

During a routine inspection

We visited the service on 28 February 2013. We telephoned a relative about the support their family member received on 1 March 2013. We spoke with the Acting Service Manager, three staff members and a Peer Service Manager for the service.

A relative we spoke with told us, "I cannot give the staff enough praise for what they are doing."They told us their family member had become more confident since having support from the service and was now interacting much more with their family.

The staff we spoke with told us they had regular opportunities to update their skills and knowledge so that they could understand and meet people's needs.

We saw that the care plans were person centred and reflected people's needs. This meant that the care plan was based on the needs of the person. We saw that people's like and dislikes were clear within their care plans. We saw that regular members of care staff provided people's personal care. Continuity of staff should mean that people receive their care consistently as staff have an increased understanding of people's needs.

We spoke with staff about what they thought abuse was and they showed they had a good awareness of the importance of keeping people safe.

We saw records were kept up to date and stored securely.

We saw that where people had agreed to be supported with their finances their capacity to make this decision had not been assessed. This would have ensured the arrangement had been made in their best interests.
