During a routine inspection

During our visit to Stockwood House on 10 October 2011 we spoke with four of the six people living at the service. Two of the people using the service told us that the staff were very good and supportive. Another said, 'I don't know where I would be without this home'. They all told us that they were happy with the service provided. They explained that although they all had eating disorders the ethos of the home was to respect their views about food and support their decisions, whilst providing the continuing care that they required. Because of their condition people using the service were not able to discuss many aspects of mealtimes and meal planning with us. They did however tell us that the staff understood their needs and that they were ultimately in control of their food and fluid intake.

One person said. 'The staff are here to support me and not to judge, I am allowed to make my own decisions'. Another person told us that they had been at the home for almost four years and trusted the staff team and as a consequence were extremely anxious that their funding authority was planning to move them closer to home. The provider told us that an external advocate was being considered to support the moves.

People using the service told us they were involved in planning their care and how the home was run. They had all been provided with information about the home including the cost of their treatment and the aims, objectives and purpose of the service.
