During a routine inspection

During our visit we saw that the staff treated people with respect and we could see that peoplewho used the service were involved in making decisions and choices about their own lives through the initial assessment process.

Relatives and people we spoke with told us they were 'extremely happy" and 'thoroughly satisfied' with the support provided and said the service provided was 'excellent'. One person we spoke with said,''It's marvellous care and flexible'.

The agency had in place all the necessary equipment to support the operation of a busy domiciliary care agency.

We reviewed the recruitment records of five staff. We saw that all staff had been recruited using an effective and robust procedure that included all of the appropriate checks to ensure that the person being employed was of good character.

We looked at a number of client feedback questionnaires completed at different times over the last year. Overall most people were very happy with the service provided.

During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with who were using the services of the Kendal domiciliary service all expressed satisfaction with the support and services they were receiving. They told us they were "very happy and would not want to swap". Another person we spoke with told us, "I'm very satisfied, they've all been good workers". People told us that they were able to give their views and opinions either using surveys or speaking to the staff and supervisors. They told us they had been made aware of how to make a complaint if they wanted to but no one we spoke with had done so.

People told us that they felt "safe" and that staff respected their privacy and that they were always sent a list of which staff who would be calling. One person commented "They have been coming for years... I know them all...they are very good, very caring".

More than one person commented upon how they could have a "friendly chat" with staff and "a laugh" with them. Another person said they valued their visits as they were regular contact and helped them "feel secure".

People told us that the service was "reliable' and that if staff were held up they would let them know they were going to be late. For some people having the support the service gave made it possible for them to retain their independence and be able to stay in their own home as they wanted.
