Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 4 September 2025

Dates of assessment: 8 October 2025 to 24 October 2025. Holly Bank Care Home is a 25 bedded residential care home, supporting older people, including those living with dementia. At the time of the assessment, 21 people were living at the service. We visited on 8 October 2025.

We carried out this assessment to check the provider had maintained a good standard of service since the last assessment.

Safe staffing levels were in place with a managed surplus of staff time to enable meaningful interactions and a range of activities involving individuals and groups. Recruitment was managed safely.

The service had a person-centred culture offering choice and control over most aspects of life there. Risks to people’s health, safety and wellbeing were assessed and regularly reviewed.

People’s health needs were met and the service worked well with stakeholders and other agencies. There were strong links with health and social care professionals. The service was homely, safe, and well maintained. A programme of refurbishment had been completed since the last assessment with ongoing remedial tasks planned.

Audits and checks were in place to maintain oversight of the service. The provider and registered manager were both committed to providing a person-centred, high-quality service. A continuous improvement plan was in place.

People's experience of the service

Updated 4 September 2025

People, visitors and family members felt they or their relatives were safe both with staff and in the building at Holly Bank. Comments included, “We would recommend it to any of our friends; it is a lovely place.”

People were interested in talking to us about the service, their activities and the meals. The service was praised for its appearance, cleanliness and how the rooms were personalised.

People said mornings were quieter with more going on in the afternoons. The meals were appetizing and there was flexibility in terms of the menu, mealtimes and places to eat. Staff were caring, respectful and supported choice and independence. Aids and adaptations were employed by people to maintain independence but when people needed one to one support it was available. People told us staff seemed happy in their roles, had time “To have a natter” and did not rush them to get things done. In terms of care planning, some people said they were involved, others that they could not recall this. Relatives confirmed there was involvement in care planning. People told us that they knew what they needed to do if they wanted to complain, saying that the registered manager was easy to talk to and always present.
