All Inspections

29 April 2013

During a routine inspection

During this inspection we inspected against four outcome areas. These were: care and welfare, medication management, safety and suitability of premises, and records. We found all of these outcome areas were compliant. We spoke with two people who used services who they told us they were well. One person said they were going swimming later and were looking forward to take part in the residents meeting in the evening. We saw another person used a lap top assisted by staff choosing pictures they liked and printed them. During our inspection we found people who used services were constantly stimulated and involved in daily activities and saw positive interactions with staff. One person proudly showed us pictures that some of the services users had made displayed around the dining room. One person had their daily and weekly schedule displayed in their bedroom with pictures and symbols as prompts. We saw staff assisted people who use services in the kitchen making meals and hot drinks, and areas of the kitchen were labelled to assist services users with these tasks.

9 November 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people living at the home. They told us that they were involved in deciding what help they needed and how often they needed it. One person told us, " I would tell the staff what I wanted and they would write it down in my care plan and do something about it for me." We saw another person had a concern and asked to meet with their keyworker to discuss it. We saw a meeting take place during our visit. One person told us she went swimming every week with staff and this kept her strong. Staff told us they were able to take steps to responded quickly to the persons concerns. Another person told us they felt safe in the home and their rights were respected and upheld by staff. People told us they attended house meetings on a Monday evening. They talked about life at Sheldon House and gave their comments and observations.

13 December 2011

During a routine inspection

Some people were unable to give their views about the service due to their disabilities. However we observed them taking part in activities and undertaking their daily pursuits.

One person told us 'It's friendly here. I like all the staff.'

People told us the residents meetings were good and they liked to attend them. They would plan the week's menus, made decisions about activities and trips, learnt about local and world news, and gave awards and recognition. Another person told us they liked going out to the pub and went with staff regularly.
