During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit there were 18 young people aged 11-17 years admitted to the unit. We spoke with three of the young people about their experiences during their admission. They told us they particularly enjoyed the opportunity to go on trips which happened every Sunday. They told us that staff spent time with them. One person said, 'there's always someone (staff) to talk to' and 'they will always catch up with you even if they are busy at that time'.

They liked the environment in which they were cared for. For example, one young person said, 'it's nice that it is just like a house and doesn't feel like a hospital'. The monthly menu review meeting was described as an opportunity to make suggestions and contribute to the design of the menu. One young person praised the variety of meals provided

The young people made some suggestions for improvements in the service. For example, they said they would like more activities to be provided for those young people who were not well enough to go on the Sunday outings or participate in the exercise groups. One young person said, 'If you can't go on the trip the day really drags'.
