Learning, improvement and innovation
The provider had a strong focus on continuous learning, innovation and improvement across the organisation and local system. They always encouraged creative ways of delivering equality of experience, outcome and quality of life for people. They actively contributed to safe, effective practice and research.
Management had a strong focus on reflective practice and having a learning culture. Managers completed reflective supervisions with staff following incidents. These were meaningful discussions where the root cause of the incident was established and learnt from. For example, following a medicines error, the manager reviewed the medicines competency document for staff and made this more detailed and meaningful. Additionally, following feedback from staff about having too many tasks to complete, the manager reviewed this and streamlined this to enable staff to have more time supporting people. One staff member said, “It is a lot better, the manager really listens to us.”
The manager had also focussed on activity provision within the service, after identified they were lacking in this area. This included karaoke, walks to a local garden, baking and shopping. We saw people provided positive feedback about this, such as “Karaoke is fun to do, even with staff” and “We enjoyed the game of bingo and would really like to play it again”.
