Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 4

The provider was exceptional at promoting people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

The provider’s vision was to ‘promote independence, choice, rights and personal responsibility’. People told us they were encouraged to be independent. For example, one person chose to shop for and make their own meals. The person told us, “It’s the best thing I ever did as I choose what I want”.

One person was being supported to become a peer supporter for the home. This role entailed speaking up for people at the service, carrying out health and safety checks and introducing new people to the service. We observed the person speaking eagerly about this role with the manager. This promoted the person’s independence.

The manager had also empowered people to manage their own money. This had a positive effect on their wellbeing.
