Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 10 September 2025

Buxton House is registered to provide care and support for up to 64 people. The service provides residential care for older people, some of whom are living with dementia. This was a planned inspection, and we included all the quality statements under the safe and well led key questions. The inspection took place on the 16 September and 17 September 2025. At the time of this inspection, there were 62 people living at the service. Improvements had been sustained and governance systems operated effectively; they were embedded within the service. Safeguarding procedures were in place. There was a culture of learning and improvement through all areas of the service. The registered manager learned from accidents, incidents and events, then had shared these throughout the service and with the providers locations. Recruitment processes were in place and staff were employed to ensure they had the necessary values and skills to support people and provide care. People received their medicines as prescribed. People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment when this is in their best interests and legally authorised under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). In care homes, and some hospitals, this is usually through MCA application procedures called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA, whether appropriate legal authorisations were in place when needed to deprive a person of their liberty, and whether any conditions relating to those authorisations were being met. Feedback was sought from everyone and used to shape and direct the service. Partnership working and links were made, and the service and staff were passionate about working within their local community and charitable efforts. Staff felt appreciated and valued. There was confidence in the registered manager and management team.
