Ponsandane

Ponsandane is a 'care home' that provides care and support to older people some of whom may be living with dementia. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as single package under one contractual agreement. The service accommodates up to 58 people in one adapted building. On the day of the inspection 44 people living at the home. We carried out our unannounced on-site assessment on 8 February 2024, off site assessment activity started on 17 January 2024 and ended on 15 February 2024. We looked at 7 quality statements; Safeguarding; Involving people to manage risks; Safe and effective staffing; Assessing needs; Independence, choice and control; Equity in experiences and outcomes; and Learning, improvement and innovation. At our last inspection the service was rated good. At this assessment the service remains good.

People told us staff at Ponsandane were “Very kind, caring and helpful” and relatives were pleased by the quality of care people received. People told us they were supported by sufficient numbers of experienced and skilled staff. We observed and people told us staff responded quickly when needed. People were able to make choices and unwise decision and staff knew how to support people when upset or anxious. People controlled how they spent their time and a range of activities and entertainments were available for people to engage with if they wished.
