During a routine inspection

We spoke to eight people who use the service, six members of staff and the manager. We observed the service and reviewed relevant records and care plans.

We found the atmosphere open and welcoming at the home with people freely moving around or having some assistance to mobilise. We saw that people needed care and support associated with a variety of conditions related to their physical and / or mental health.

Many people readily engaged with us and made good eye contact, allowing us to ask them about their experience. One person we spoke with told us ' I'm beginning to make friends. They (the staff) are all quite good, I can't say anything against them.'

Another person told us ' I'm used to having company. I changed rooms as I was uncomfortable - this was my choice'. Another person told us ' the people here are nice and the staff are alright fair play, I like the company.' One person who stayed in their room told us ' you're waited on hand and foot, the staff are very good and you can do what you want.'

One member of staff told us ' it's nice to see people happy, some people have no family and people are like our family here. We have to respect people's wishes'. A relative told us ' X could not have had better care '. A member of staff told us ' the training and support here is excellent'.

The home used systems for monitoring and checking the quality and safety of the service and regularly sought the views of people and their families about the service.

During a routine inspection

During the visit, we spoke with one person who was using the service and one visitor. They told us the staff kept them involved in the review of their care and always asked for permission before they delivered care.

The people we spoke with told us they were happy with the care they received. They told us the staff discussed their care needs with them on a regular basis.

They told us the staff were very friendly, caring and responsive. One person said 'The staff do an excellent job with resources they have.'

They also told us that they had no concerns about the care they received and would speak to the senior staff or the registered manager if they had any concerns.
