Good

Updated 10 July 2025

Date of Assessment: 25 July 2025 to 11 August 2025.

This assessment was carried out in response to concerns received in relation to safeguarding and moving and handling practices.

The registered manager promoted a positive learning culture and people could raise concerns.

Staff received training in safeguarding. Recent safeguarding referrals had been made appropriately.

There were enough staff deployed to meet people’s needs. Systems and procedures for recruiting new staff were robust. Staff received training and completion of this was monitored.

The provider undertook regular audits to monitor the safety of the home environment and equipment. There were effective processes to prevent and control infection. Regular audits were carried out to oversee the cleanliness and safety of the environment.

People’s medicines were managed safely by trained staff who received annual competency checks.

People’s needs were assessed prior to moving to the service. People’s care plans contained risk assessments and guidance for staff on how to manage risks associated with people’s care and support. While most of the records we saw indicated a thorough process of assessment and review, this was not always supported by the daily care notes recorded by staff. This was being addressed by the management team.

People had been assessed for their mental capacity to consent to all aspects of their care. A small sample of records did not explicitly identify what detailed efforts had been made to engage people in planning their care, but discussion with management and observation of practice indicated their views were sought in providing care, as far as possible.

We observed positive staff interactions with people living at the home. Staff were kind, considerate and responsive and this was further confirmed through feedback from people and relatives we spoke with.

Staff were well supported and spoke positively about the leadership and management of the home.

Systems and processes to assess, monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service were in place and operated effectively. The provider’s home improvement plan showed actions being taken to improve and address any identified shortfalls in service provision.

The provider had plans for ongoing improvements to the home environment, and we saw evidence of work completed and in progress. The activities programme had been enhanced using technology and steps taken to integrate the service more with the local community.

We received positive feedback from external health and social care professionals about how the service worked in partnership with them.

People's experience of the service

Updated 10 July 2025

People and their relatives we spoke with were all happy with the care and support the service provided. For example, a relative told us “It’s a nice environment for people with dementia. There definitely seems to be a lot of staff, and they all seem perfectly able.” Another relative said, “He really likes it here. It reminds me of a home from home.” Comments about the staff included, “I trust them implicitly with him. They’re always approachable and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. I can honestly say I have no worries about his care” and “The staff are always polite and personable, and they are lovely to him. I class these guys as my dad’s family.”
