During an inspection looking at part of the service

All of the people we spoke to said that they were treated with respect by all staff working at the home. People said; 'I am well looked after, it's a happy place to be', 'I am well cared for, I can't grumble about the care at all, it's worked out right coming here, there's no activities, I go out but only when my family take me, mainly I just sit and watch TV' and 'I've been here a good while, it's handy, we sit and gossip between ourselves'.

We spoke to someone who had just had their room redecorated. They said how pleased they were with both the redecoration and the new carpet. One of the people we spoke to said that if they had any concerns they would feel happy in raising them with the manager.

During an inspection in response to concerns

'I spend all my time in my room, my sister visits, the food is alright, I don't get a choice but I am not bothered, staff just bring a meal up to my room, they do ask sometimes. I get well cared for, I like the staff they answer buzzers quickly. D'cor? I haven't really noticed, as long as I have a bed and a chair I am happy. I could tell the girls if I had any concerns. I haven't looked at my care plan but my sister may have done. I could go out with staff if I wanted but I don't like to use a wheelchair'.

'I slept in this morning; I like to go out with staff they take me out at least twice a week. My family visit regularly. My room is comfortable, a new carpet is being talked about, the staff come and clean every day. Lunch is a cooked meal as a rule, normally a choice. Staff are alright, no problem. I couldn't walk when I came in and I am walking again now. I get my meals in my room, plenty to eat and drink although no fruit since I came in, you always get a dessert'.

'I have been here about a month, came from hospital following a fall, here permanently. Have a nice room; it's fairly well furnished and decorated, going to get it cleaned up eventually. Haven't heard much about my care plan, get visitors. There's not much going on. Food is very good, excellent in fact, we get a choice. The staff are very good, they speak nicely, answer buzzers quickly. I would like to see my GP more frequently, the nurses are very good'.

'I am alright, too much noise in this lounge, I don't like the noise. Nothing to do here, nothing that I know of going on socially. I get a choice of meals, food is good and I get well cared for. We haven't been outside for a long time, it gets to you'.

'It's alright here, not much to do, if extra staff on, we might have a game of bingo. If you don't have family to take you out then you just stay here. It's very rare that you get taken out. There is plenty to eat and drink; we get a choice and if you didn't like either they would make you something else. I have to wait a long time to see a GP. I get up at 5am so that carers can get home, it does make it a long day.
