During a routine inspection

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan. During our inspection we met with the ten people who lived in the home. Most people were able to verbalise their opinion, however some were not able to, so we observed their care and support. People were in and out of the home during the day, taking part in various activities such as bowling, bike riding and shopping.

During our inspection the provider explained that two people who lived in the home used an adapted bicycle. Each person had a three-wheeled bicycle which gave them better balance whilst riding and enabled them to take part in the activity safely. The bicycles were checked weekly and maintained to ensure they were safe to use. People told us they were very happy living in their home. One person who was not fully able to verbalise their opinion smiled and gave a big 'thumbs up'. People told us they would tell someone if they were not happy with the care or support they received.

Care plans, risk assessments and incidents were monitored by the manager to ensure people received safe, high quality care, treatment and support. An action plan was in place in the event of an emergency. This contained plans for evacuation and detailed fire training and maintenance of fire equipment. People's personal records, including medical records, were accurate and fit for purpose.

During a routine inspection

People expressed their views and were involved in making decisions about their care

and treatment.

We spoke with two people who lived in the home. They were positive about the way

they were enabled to make decisions and choices about their lifestyle. One person said, "I get up early as I like to have a bath every morning, then I decide what I want to wear". Another person told us they went to the shops and bought a paper each day and said, "no-one tells me what I have to do, its up to me". People said they chose the trips and activities they wanted to take part in.

We could see that people were comfortable with the staff in the home. We talked with

two people about being safe. They said they felt safe in their home and would tell the

manager if they were unhappy. One person said, "I feel safe living here, I know staff well and have a good relationship with everyone". Another person said, "If I have a complaint, staff listen, I talk to them, they would know if I was unhappy".

Staff received appropriate professional development. We spoke with four care workers

who told us they thought there were enough staff to be able to do their job well and

support people appropriately. Care workers said they worked across the three care homes and knew each of the residents which enabled them to give continuity of care to people.

Staff commented that the learning and training they received had helped them to

understand and support the client group they worked with. A senior member of staff said that most staff were qualified to a level three in a national vocational qualification in health and social care.

One care worker told us they encouraged people to give their views on the running of the home through informal discussions with staff. The home also held a monthly resident's meeting where people could give their views. Actions from these meetings were followed up by staff.
