During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit to Hall Farm Cottage there were two people living there, we spoke with both of them and the member of staff supporting them during the morning of our visit.

People appeared happy and relaxed in the company of the staff and were seen to be engaged in discussions about the day's activities ahead. Staff were observed supporting people in a sensitive and inclusive manner.

We looked at people's personal care files to see if their care assessment documentation met their needs and we saw that they did. We received positive comments from people living in the home. People told us how staff supported them to be as independent as possible. People's comments included: "I go to the day centre for four days a week and enjoy art class, play games, do keep fit and play the guitar." "My mum comes to visit me and I go out with her."

The staff we spoke with told us "We get people involved in their lives. They make the choices and we support them."

There were systems in place to monitor the quality, health and safety of the service and showed how people living at Hall Farm Cottage had been consulted as part of this audit. Some risk assessments such as safeguarding adults to ensure the safety of people living and working in the home had been updated.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with one person who was at home during our visit to Hall Farm Cottage and two members of staff during their shift change. The person was unable to verbally communicate their replies and used sign language to communicate. They told us they were happy living at Hall Farm Cottage and that all the staff were kind to them. They were happy to show us the paintings they had done, with staff telling us that the person were supported to display their paintings in galleries.

We saw the person carrying out household tasks during our time spent at the service.

We were given permission to look at their care plan and we asked direct questions to them for them to be able to reply. They told us they enjoyed being independent and having a member of staff around for extra support when needed.

Both people told us they were comfortable living at the cottage and they would not like to live anywhere else.

One person told us "The staff are really good to us here, and they help me when I need it."

"I enjoy going out to the pub."

"I know there are written notes about me, I rely on the staff to tell me when we need to talk about them."
