Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 7 March to 22 March 2025. The service is a care home providing nursing and personal care to 55 adults. At the time of the assessment there were 49 people using the service. The assessment was carried out in response to potential concerns over recent injuries CQC had been notified of. We found multiple concerns relating to the safety of the internal environment. Staff did not always treat people in a way that was dignified and respectful. Medicines were not always managed safely. Incidents and injuries were not managed safely and opportunities to learn from incidents and implement improvements were not taken. Care was not person centred, and staff did not have time to spend with people outside of care tasks. Governance processes were ineffective. Action was not always taken to safeguard people from the potential of abuse or poor care. We found 4 breaches of the legal regulations relating to person-centred care, safeguarding, safe care and treatment and governance. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/ or appeals have been concluded. This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we user our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.

People's experience of this service

People gave mixed feedback on their experiences of care and support in the service. One person said, “They are nice staff on the whole”, a relative said “No problems at all most staff are helpful.” However, one person told us, “Some staff are abrupt.” Another person said, “Staff are rude sometimes.” Some people shared other concerns which were raised with the registered manager and also with the local safeguarding authority.

People could not recall being asked for feedback on their care and we found no effective system of gathering or acting on feedback from people.

People told us they liked their rooms and that these were personalised to their own tastes. While people expressed general satisfaction with the home environment our assessment found elements of the environment did not meet the expected standards.

Some people told us they felt safe, however this was not the experience of everyone in the service. One person told us about feeling intimidated by some staff, while another person said they were shouted at sometimes over what they felt were ‘trivial things.’ We found safeguarding policies and procedures were not always effectively followed.

People told us they had to wait at times for personal care. People said when they pressed call bells these were not always answered quickly.
