Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 19 to 22 January 2026. Sawley is a residential home providing regulated activity to adults, they provide personal care to people with learning disabilities and autistic people, also people with mental health conditions. The service is registered to provide care for up to 6 people. At the time of our inspection, 5 people were using the service. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. This assessment was carried out due to the time that passed since the last inspection. We found the provider had a proactive and positive culture of safety. Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety. Risks which affected people's daily lives, were documented and known by staff. The manager monitored and regularly assessed these risks and took appropriate actions to ensure people received care in a safe and consistent way. We found the provider had made improvements to their recruitment processes following our last inspection, at this assessment we found staff were recruited safely and through recruitment checks were now in place. The provider made sure that medicines were safely managed and met people’s needs, capacities and preferences. We found care plans in place detailed important information which linked with current good practice on how to support people with their health conditions. Accessible information was available to people on a range of topics. The provider told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centered care. We saw many examples of the goals people had achieved since using the service, such as going on holiday and learning new skills which aided their independence. People were supported and empowered to make their own choices about how they wished to lead their day-to-day lives. We observed care and support to be led by the people using the service. The provider made it easy for people to share feedback and ideas or raise complaints about their care and support. People were supported to plan for important life changes, so they could have enough time to make informed decisions about their future, including at the end of their life. Leaders had the skills, knowledge, experience and credibility to lead effectively. They did so with integrity, openness and honesty. The manager demonstrated a good oversight of the service through the systems they had in place which ensured regular audits took place to drive service improvement. The provider's systems produced regular reports on compliance. This information was analysed by the manager and provider and used to drive improvements where required.
