All Inspections

10 April 2013

During a routine inspection

The manager told us that the service made it very clear that the service could only be offered to people if they shared the Christian Scientist beliefs. We saw the service was small and there were currently only two staff members.

We looked at the records held by the service to see if there were sufficient staff on duty to meet the assessed needs of people who used the service and found this was the case. The staff member we spoke with told us they felt supported by the manager. They said "we talk about the service users needs all the time. We try to make sure we give the best possible service."

There was a system in place to ensure all staff received training in safeguarding vulnerable adults or in the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

We read feedback from a recent service user who described the service as 'excellent."

During a routine inspection

The manager told us that the service made it very clear that the service could only be offered to people if they shared the Christian Scientist beliefs. The manager told us' I am a Christian Scientist nurse not a registered nurse so I do not deal with people's medical needs. If people need assistance with pain then I refer them to a Christian Scientist practitioner to assist and support them."

We saw the service was small and there were currently only two staff members. We looked at the records held by the service to see if there were sufficient staff on duty to meet the assessed needs of people who used the service and found this was the case.

People told us that they have all of the contact details they need in their care folder and were all confident that the service would respond to any complaints if they had them. They all said that they would contact the office if they were unhappy.

There was no system in place to ensure all staff received training in safeguarding vulnerable adults or in the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

People told us they were happy with the service they received and the staff were very 'kind."
