Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 23 September 2025

The assessment took place from 14th October 2025 to 05 November 2025.

Maidstone Care Centre is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 58 people. At the time of our inspection there were 57 people using the service. The service provides support to people who may be living with dementia.

We carried out this assessment to check whether the service had improved their compliance with the legal regulations.

The service had made improvements and were no longer in breach of regulations for person-centred care, consent, and fit and proper persons. Although some improvements had been made the service remained in continued breach of 2 regulations for safe care and treatment and good governance in relation to their medicines management.

Medicines had not always been managed safely and the governance within the service had not always supported staff to identify and ensure appropriate, timely action was taken to reduce risk to people in relation to their medicine management.

The service now had a registered manager in post who was registered with CQC during the inspection. Governance systems and processes had been established and were being embedded to better support the management of the service, although there was still some improvement needed.

Risks were now assessed such as risks to people’s health, welfare and safety. Staff worked in partnership with other professionals to meet people’s individual needs. Staff were now recruited safely although we continued to receive mixed feedback about the staffing levels in the home.

People were supported by kind and caring staff who now gave them choice and control of their lives. The service had improved individualised care for people and staff now supported people in person-centred ways. The service now followed the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 to ensure people’s rights were protected.

We have asked the provider for an updated action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

During the inspection we spoke with 9 people and 14 relatives. We spoke with 8 staff including the Registered Manager, Regional Director, Deputy Manager, Nurse, Senior and Health Care Assistant staff as well as Domestic staff.

People's experience of the service

People told us they felt safe living at the service. Most relatives confirmed they felt people were safe. A relative said, “It is like [relative’s] home here.” People and relatives now felt involved in their care and gave examples of how staff supported people safely and kindly to manage their risks and needs. A relative said, “They do contact me with any changes. I’m always involved.” People and relatives continued to give mixed feedback about the staffing in the home. Although people and relatives felt there were enough staff, they commented that sometimes they had to wait for staff to meet their needs. A relative said, “They always seem very busy. I think they could do with a few more they are always rushing around from one room to another.” Another relative said, “I think [staffing] is a bit tight.” People and relatives felt the staff were kind and caring. A person said, “The carers are excellent.” A relative said, “We find the staff very helpful they look after [relative] very well.” Another said, “It's brilliant here. The staff are so caring.” People told us they were given choice about their care and their choices were respected.
