During an inspection looking at part of the service

About the service

TrinityPlus Healthcare Services is a domiciliary care agency providing support for people in their own homes. The service also provides care and support to people living in a ‘supported living’ setting, so that they can live as independently as possible. People’s care and housing are provided under separate contractual agreements. CQC does not regulate premises used for supported living; this inspection looked at people’s personal care and support. The service was supporting 12 people at the time of the inspection.

People’s experience of using this service and what we found

We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it.

Right Support:

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. The provider had systems in place to investigate safeguarding concerns. Staff had completed safeguarding training. Individual and environmental risks were identified and mitigated.

Right Care:

Safe recruitment practices were in place and staff received an induction to be able to provide safe care. Staff had completed training designed to meet people’s needs. People were supported by a familiar and consistent team. Regular spots checks were conducted to ensure standards of care were maintained. Staff treated people with dignity and respect.

Right Culture:

The provider had made improvements throughout the service. Effective systems were in place to monitor the safety and quality of the service. The provider and registered manager were passionate about providing good quality care. The registered manager had developed good working relationships with health and social work teams. During a routine inspection

About the service

TrinityPlus Healthcare Services is a domiciliary care agency providing personal care to people in their own homes. At the time of our inspection there were 4 people who were using the service and receiving personal care. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided.

At the time of the inspection, the location did not care or support for anyone with a learning disability or an autistic person. However, we assessed the care provision under Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture, as it is registered as a specialist service for this population group.

The provider did not have robust recruitment procedures in place and pre-employment checks were not always retained in staff files. We could not be assured that people were getting their medicines as prescribed because medicine records were not always complete. The provider did not have systems and processes in place to monitor and improve the quality of the service.

Risks to people were assessed and appropriate plans put in place. Staff protected people from the risk of abuse and people felt safe with the staff that supported them. The provider managed infection prevention and control safely and in line with guidance.

People were involved in their care plans and these contained information about people’s choices and preferences. Staff had received an appropriate induction and had ongoing training to safely support people. Where required, people were supported to eat and drink enough to maintain a balanced diet. Staff liaised with other healthcare professionals when needed.

People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

Staff were kind and caring, and treated people with dignity and respect. Staff told us they were not rushed and had plenty of time to support people. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s needs and the support they wanted. People were supported by the same staff team where possible, and people were supported to follow their interests.

There was a positive culture within the service and staff enjoyed their jobs. Staff felt supported by the management team. We received mixed feedback from people and relatives about communication with the office.
