During an assessment under our new approach
Date of assessment: 10 to 29 July 2025. Elizabeth House is a residential care home which provides accommodation and personal care for up to 30 older people, some of whom were living with dementia. There were 27 people living at the home at the time of our 2 site visits. We reviewed additional information and evidence remotely.
The assessment was undertaken to check the provider had followed their action plan from the last inspection. The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment. Improvements were found at this assessment and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation.
Everyone we spoke with was happy with the care at Elizabeth House. People were protected and kept safe by staff who knew them well. Staff understood and managed risks to people’s health and welfare. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience and staff were recruited safely. Staff received training and had regular supervision. Improvements had been made in the management of medicines.
The home environment was generally well-maintained, although there was a leak coming through the dining room ceiling. This has since been repaired. The home was clean, and improvements had been made to the kitchen and laundry since our last inspection. However, some areas would benefit from redecorating. There were plans to improve the outside space so that it was a more pleasant area for people to spend time in.
There had been a change of management at the service since our last inspection. The current manager, who had spent some time working as the provider’s regional manager, was in the process of registering with CQC to become the registered manager of the service; they promoted a learning culture based on honesty and transparency and people and staff felt able to talk to them. There were systems in place to gather feedback from people and staff. The manager had an ‘open door’ management approach; they investigated incidents thoroughly and used checks and audits to monitor the service.
