Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 6 January to 10 February 2026. A site visit was carried out on 6 January 2026. The assessment was carried out due to the age of the rating – 4 years since the previous inspection.

Park House Rest Home is an 18-bed residential home mainly caring for older people. An inspection was conducted to evaluate the quality, safety, and effectiveness of care within the service. The home was found to provide a generally warm, sociable, and person-centred environment, with staff demonstrating‑ positive engagement and responsiveness to residents’ needs. The service demonstrated safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well led practices throughout the inspection. No significant concerns were identified‑.

The premises were clean, well-maintained, and free from malodours. Safety equipment and fire notices were prominently displayed, and infection prevention and control (IPC) measures were evident. Temperature concerns were noted in two areas but may have been influenced by unusually cold weather‑.

The home maintained appropriate staffing levels, supported by a visible management team. Staff displayed a good understanding of people’s’ needs and demonstrated compassionate, respectful interactions. Leaders were engaged, responsive, and proactive in addressing issues as they arose.
People appeared comfortable, sociable, and well supported. Mealtime observations showed high-quality, appetizing food with dignified and unhurried assistance‑ for those who needed it. Activities were varied and inclusive, with good participation across different communal areas.

There were a small number of people with anxiety or behavioural needs, two requiring thickened fluids, and two with monitored weightconcerns. These people’s needs were being met and their progress monitored effectively. Risks (such as falls) were actively managed through sensor equipment and external team involvement where needed.

Visitors felt welcomed and comfortable, supported by a digital signing in system and staff who maintained‑ warm, professional interactions. Technology such as Skype/FaceTime was used effectively to support remote family connections.
