All Inspections

14 October 2013

During a routine inspection

We spoke with 8 people who were using the service at the time of the inspection. We also spoke with 4 relatives of people who were using the service who were not able to speak with us directly. We asked people for their views about the service. People were complimentary about the service and people's comments included: 'It's working very well indeed. I don't think I'll need their services much longer.' 'It's a very good service and I've no complaints at all.' 'Everybody's been marvellous and brilliant. My mum couldn't have come home without them.' 'Nothing is too much trouble.' 'A good load of carers and nothing is too much trouble.' 'I'm very appreciative and thankful, they're all very friendly.'

People we spoke with told us they had been visited within their own homes by district nurses and occupational therapists. They told us any necessary equipment they had been assessed as requiring by the occupational therapist to promote and help them within their own home had been provided in a timely manner.

We spoke with 5 members of staff who told us they were supported by their line manager on a day to day basis and through formal supervisions and annual appraisals. Staff told us they attended regular training to enable them to care and support people.

The provider has a quality assurance system which seeks people's views which includes the recording and managing of complaints and compliments which is effective and shows any follow up actions taken by the service. There is not a consistent system for monitoring and updating staff records with regards to staff supervision, appraisal and training.

During a routine inspection

People told us they felt safe and well supported by the service. They also told us that they thought the staff were well trained and very professional in delivering the care they needed.

We found the provider took appropriate steps to ensure people received the care and support they needed. All planning took place in a person centred manner and included a range of health professionals. The provider also ensured all staff received suitable training and regular supervision during their employment.
