During a routine inspection

When we visited this service in October 2013 we found care and support plans had not been developed to identify the care and support needs of all of the people who lived at the home. We also found the systems in place for managing medicines were not safe. We said that improvements were needed.

The provider told us that they had made improvements. We made this visit to see if these improvements had been maintained.

We looked at four people's care files and found that each contained a care plan outlining the person's needs. Although some of the care plans lacked specific detail, we observed staff to be familiar with people's needs and delivered appropriate care.

We found some improvements had been made with regard to safe management of medicines. Further action was taken by the manager on the day of our visit.

Some of the people we spoke with during our visit were not able, due to complex care needs, to tell us about their experience of living at the home. One person told us they were "very satisfied". They said staff were kind and they particularly enjoyed the food.

During a routine inspection

During our visit to Stafford Manor we spoke with 10 people who lived at the home. Not all of the people we spoke with were able, due to complex care needs, to tell us about their experiences and opinions of the service they received. These are some of the things people told us:

"We have nothing to complain about, we do very well".

"They feed us up like chickens, we are all getting fat!".

"The food is very good".

"Sometimes it can be a bit dull, depends if people (staff) have time to do anything".

People told us that they received good care and we witnessed care staff treating people with care and kindness. Whilst most care plans were appropriate, we found that one person living at the home did not have any care plans in place.

People told us that they enjoyed the food and we saw the food to be nutritious, appetising and nicely served.

On the whole, medications were managed well but some improvements may be needed to make sure safe systems are in place for administration of medicine.

Staff told us that they could do with extra help, especially first thing in the morning and in the evening.

Systems were in place for auditing the service provided.

5 July 2012

During a routine inspection

Due to their complex care needs, many of the people living at the home were unable

to tell us about their experiences.

One person told us that the staff were very good and said "they do everything we need for us"

Another person told us that staff don't have time to talk with them as they are so busy.

Several people told us that the food is very good at the home.

One person said "We are very comfortable here"
