All Inspections

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We returned to the home to ensure staff had made improvements in three outcome areas, and also looked at other outcomes associated with infection control in the home.

We found some improvements to the medication system and the safety of the premises. However there was still work to be done in those areas and to the quality monitoring, to ensure people were provided with the appropriate levels of protection.

We also looked at infection control in the home, specifically in the laundry area. We found that staff were unaware how to protect themselves and others from the effects of cross-contamination and cross-infection in the home.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We returned to the home to ensure staff had made improvements in two outcome areas, and also looked at other outcomes associated with health and safety in the home. The people we spoke with at the home told us they were happy and one said 'I liked the pork loin today, though it was a bit fatty' and 'we eat a lot of sandwiches, they are bulky and fill me up in the afternoon.' Another commented 'I am happy for the staff to have my tablets; I can have them when I need them.'

We found improvements in care plans and saw that people were being recruited through a secure process so protecting people in the home.

We did not find the same improvements in assessing and monitoring the quality of service information. We also found improvements were needed with the accuracy of information when dealing with medicines. We also found that there was a need for clearer information on how staff record health and safety information.

During a routine inspection

We observed people taking part in activities, interacting with staff, and having a meal. People told us they are well cared for and happy at the home.

One person told us, 'I have made handicrafts for the Christmas fair. I find it difficult with my hands, but like to join in.'

Relatives told us the care was good at the home. One said, 'My relative is treated with the respect she deserves.' Another relative told us, 'The home is cosy and homely, this is why we choose it.'
