All Inspections

2 December 2013

During a routine inspection

On the day of our visit four people were living at Newsome Road.

During our visit we spoke with the manager and two staff. We also spoke with two people who lived at the home and two relatives of people who lived at the home.

We observed interaction between staff and the people who lived at the home. We heard staff asking people what they would like to do and explaining what was happening.

We looked at the support plans of two people who used the service. Each plan showed people using the service received additional support when required for meeting their care and treatment needs.

We looked around the home and found it was clean, tidy and well maintained.

People who used the service were cared for by staff that had sufficient support to ensure they delivered care and treatment to the appropriate standard.

Documentation also showed the home had effective systems for auditing the quality of service.

During a routine inspection

We spoke to three people who use the service. They all told us that they were happy with the care provided. Comments included, "I like my room", "Everything's running smoothly" and "staff are nice." people told us that they felt safe living at Newsome Road.

People told us how they had been involved in making decisions about how the care and support was provided at Newsome Road. For example people told us about choosing the colour of paint for the kitchen and how they contributed to planning the menu.

Staff told us that people were well looked after and were given choice in deciding their care and support. Staff told us that they try to ensure people are as independent as possible.
