All Inspections

26 September 2013

During a routine inspection

When we inspected there were 28 people living in the home. During our visit we spoke with nine people and six staff. We also made our own observations throughout the visit.

People who lived in the home were positive about the service and said they were treated with dignity and respect. Each person commented they were happy living in The Lawns. One person told us 'it's all very good here' whilst another said 'I like it here.' People said they could talk to staff to make changes to their care and that staff treated them as individuals. One person told us 'the staff are excellent' whilst another told us "staff see to it, that I get the changes I want."

People told us they had good relationships with the staff and were able to talk to staff if they had any worries or concerns. Staff told us what action they would take if they saw anything which might affect the wellbeing of the person using the service.

The records held by the service were complete, detailed in setting out peoples' individual needs and mostly up to date. This helped and supported staff to maintain the comfort and wellbeing of people using the service.

Recently recruited staff had complete employment records. Systems were in place for monitoring the service and collecting people's views on the quality of the care they received.

The evidence we collected, demonstrated the service kept people safe and met their care needs.

During a routine inspection

When we visited the service there were 30 people accommodated. People had a variety of needs, many were younger adults with complex physical disabilities. We spoke to people living in the home and some friends and relatives who were visiting. We also spoke to the care and nursing staff, the staff that organise activities in the day centre, a domestic cleaner, the cook and the registered manager. Some people were unable to communicate with us directly and we spoke to many relatives or friends that were visiting. Friends told us, "we are always made to feel welcome and the staff are courteous and helpful".

There was a consistency with all the relatives and friends we spoke to about the attentive staff that delivered competent and compassionate nursing care.

One person who had lived at the home for more than 16 years expressed complete satisfaction with the care and service they had received.
