Date of Assessment: 6 November to 10 November 2025.

Kenver House is a care home which provides care to older people with dementia. The assessment included 1 visit to the home by 2 inspectors and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service.

This inspection was conducted due to the time since we last inspected the home. The home was previously rated good. At this assessment we looked at all 33 quality statements and provided the home with a new overall rating of good. The registered manager continued to be in post; however, they were currently taking leave. The home had 2 deputy managers who were supporting to cover the registered managers leave. The providers were involved with the home on a day to day basis and supported this assessment. In the assessment report, we therefore refer to the management team. At the time of our assessment 27 people were living at the home.

People and their relatives felt the staff provided safe care to people. Sufficient staff helped to meet the needs of people in a timely way. New staff were recruited safely. The environment was clean and well-maintained. Incidents and accidents were investigated and analysed to identify areas for improvement and learn lessons.

Staff treated people with kindness and empathy. They helped to promote people’s independence. Staff empowered people to be in control to make choices about how their care was provided. The staff cared for people following a person-centred approach to care. Activities took place within the home and events like Halloween and Christmas were celebrated. People had detailed care plans which provided personalised information about how people wanted to be cared for.

Staff were well supported and knew how to raise concerns, if needed. The provider had effective quality assurance systems to ensure issues were identified and resolved quickly

People's experience of the service

Updated 26 October 2025

We gained feedback from people, their relatives and staff. We spent time observing how the staff interacted with people. We spoke with 4 people and 6 relatives. The people and relatives we spoke with, spoke positively about the home and the experiences they have had. Relatives told us, “We are quite happy, it is good,” “The staff are amazing, they’ve become like family to us. Every person on the team is absolutely amazing. That’s why we chose it.” People and relatives told us, staff provided safe care and treatment. Relatives confirmed when people were unwell or had fallen, they were contacted. One relative told us, “Dad has lots of falls but that’s the nature of his illness. The care is outstanding. When he had a fall, they called me and by the time I arrived the ambulance was here, and they had paperwork and details of medication, all ready to go with him.” People were encouraged to socialise at mealtimes by eating together in the dining room. We observed some people preferred to have meals in the lounge. People were offered a choice at mealtimes and various drinks were offered during the day. People were encouraged to take part in activities and to socially engage with each other. The home had an activity planner on display. We observed some people taking part in artwork with the staff. Relatives told us activities were based on people’s interests. One person told us, “I went to the hippodrome, to see Tina Turner. She was better than the real one.”
