During an inspection looking at part of the service

We visited the home to follow up improvements since our last visit in August 2012. We spoke with two people who told us they were satisfied with the care they had received.

Staffing arrangements had improved since our last visit. We observed routines and found staff responded promptly to requests for support. One person who lived in the home said, 'Staff are marvellous, very good support here.' A visitor commented, "The staff are very good, they always take their time with people, they don't rush them.'

We found improvements had been made to the quality and accuracy of the care records. Where people's needs had changed there was evidence the care plans had been updated to reflect these changes. People who used the service told us they were well cared for. One person said, 'I'm quite satisfied with everything, I've no complaints" and "I'm getting the care that I need." Another person we spoke with said, "I'm happy with the support and care I get, I know they keep records about the help I need but I'm not very interested in all that.'

We found improvements had been made to the staff development programme. Staff were receiving more regular supervision and appraisal.

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we spoke with people who used the service. They spoke positively about the care and support they received. They told us they liked living in the home and confirmed they were well supported to make choices and decisions about their care. We received comments such as, 'I am looked after very well, nothing is too much trouble' and "The staff make sure I have everything I need, they are very encouraging."

People living in the home described the staff as kind and helpful and we received only positive comments about how they delivered care. One person commented, "The staff are lovely." Another person told us, "Very nice group of staff, always very willing and obliging.'

Four relatives we spoke with were complimentary about the home. They spoke highly of the staff and described how their relative had settled at the home. One person said, "I have no cause to complain, I'm happy with the care and everything. I would talk with the owners if I had a problem.'
