During a routine inspection

The registered manager Simon Ewington takes responsibility for the day to day running of the service and is in daily contact with people who live in the home and the staff.

People received appropriate care and support that was personalised to their needs We spoke with six of the eight people in the home. Everyone had something positive to say about the care they had received. One person said " We say what we would like here and our requests are granted." Another person said "the standard of care is excellent.'

People made choices about the way they spent their days and the care they received. One person told us "We say what we would like and our requests are granted. Another person said "I am able to wander about here. I just do whatever I want to. I like that'.

People were very positive about the treatment they received from the staff. One person said 'They look after me extremely well. You couldn't find a better lot.'Another person told us "The girls are very hard working. They are all lovely.'

People were encouraged and supported to live in a way that met their needs. We saw that people went out with friends, family and members of staff when they wished. People's health needs were assessed regularly and visits from doctors and community nurses were arranged promptly when required.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We spoke with one person who was having respite care at the home. They told us they were managing their own medication and were very satisfied with the care they were receiving.

Medication administration records indicated that people were receiving their prescribed medicines on time.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

People told us that they made choices about the way that they spent their days in the home and the care that they received. We saw during the inspection that the home was meeting people's different needs on an individual basis.

We spoke to most of the people in the home. Everyone had something positive to say about the care they had received. One person said 'I am jolly lucky to have this. I can stay here as long as I like. It is very comfortable."

From talking to people and from evidence in daily records we saw that staff were prompt to notice when people were unwell. They received appropriate care and the doctor was called. We were told 'it is like being cared for by the family.'

During our visit to the home we saw that people were supported appropriately with daily living. Prompt and discreet assistance was offered to people when it was requested.

Everyone we saw in the home appeared to be happy and relaxed. We heard that staff spoke to people kindly and with patience. Everyone we spoke to was positive about the staff who they said were polite, kind and helpful. We heard that most people were able to talk to the acting manager and ask them to 'sort out' any problems.

During a routine inspection

The registered provider and manager of Ashcott Lawns is Mrs Monica Corbett. The acting manager is not registered with CQC but takes responsibility for the day to day running of the service.

We spoke to most of the people in the home. Everyone had something positive to say about the care they had received. One person said 'You won't get much better than this." People told us that they could make choices about the way that they spent their days in the home and the care that they received.

One person told us "Oh yes, I can do what I like. I get up at seven and have my shower. Sometimes I am going out otherwise I stay in my room till lunch time. I have the wireless.' Another person said 'I run my own life. I leave the home often and have friends in the village.'

People were encouraged and supported to live in a way that met their needs. Two people were living in a self contained flatlet within the home. We were told 'It is nice to have your own things around you. This couldn't be better.'

People received appropriate care and support that was personalised to their needs however the home's care planning procedures put people at risk as they did not identify people's assessed needs, risks or preferences clearly and there was no written information for staff regarding the care to be delivered.
