Updated 31 March 2025
Date of assessment: 3 to 15 April 2025. This assessment was undertaken due to the age of the previous rating and to follow up some information of concern we had received. Patcham Nursing Home is a service providing support to older people, some of whom were living with dementia. They support people with a variety of physical and mental health needs. There were 28 people living at the home at the time of our assessment. At our last inspection of the service, it was rated requires improvement in safe and effective. There had been improvements made at this assessment and the rating has now changed to good. Although we had received some concerns about catheter care at the home, we found no evidence of poor practice. Improvements had been made to staffing levels and staff were now receiving appropriate support. People were safe and cared for by appropriately trained staff who knew them well. The nurses had good oversight of medical treatments and were appropriately recruited. The registered manager and deputy manager had a robust schedule of quality assurance checks in place to ensure any issues were quickly identified and addressed. There was an open and transparent culture at the home, with an ethos for learning and driving improvements. People received individualised care which was centred around their needs and wishes. This was regularly reviewed and external professionals involved as and when appropriate. People were supported to have maximum choice and control in their lives, and staff demonstrated a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). The management had forged good relationships with the local community and feedback we received from professionals was positive.
