Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 21 November 2025

Date of Assessment: 1 - 22 December 2025.

Woodlands Care Home provides accommodation and personal care for up to 55 older people across 5 separate units. Some people living at the home were living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 52 people using the service.

We inspected the service due to the length of time since our last inspection and the previous rating which was Requires Improvement.

At our last inspection, the provider was previously in breach of the legal regulations in safe care and treatment and good governance, largely relating to the safe management of medication. Sufficient improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.

Medicines were now being managed safely. People were protected from abuse and avoidable harm. Systems for safeguarding, risk management, infection control were effective. Staff were well-trained and knew people well, which built trust with the people they supported.

Feedback about the care provided was extremely positive and everybody told us about the caring nature of the staff team. People were offered choice and their independence was promoted by staff.

Leadership was strong, inclusive, and focused on continuous improvement. There was a positive culture of openness and learning, clear governance systems, and effective partnership working. Staff felt supported and able to speak up, and diversity was valued.

People's experience of the service

People who used the service and relatives told us the service was safe and that enough staff were available. People felt medicines were managed appropriately and they received the support they needed to eat and drink. One person said to us, “I can manage quite well but need help sometimes. The staff are so good and always checking on us to make sure we are ok, even at nighttime someone checks on us. There are always plenty of drinks available. The staff bring them to us. I do have tablets but the staff sort that. I have always got my medication.”

Everybody we spoke with made positive comments about the care provided and said the staff team treated people in a kind and respectful way. People were treated with dignity and respect and were able to retain their independence where possible. One person said, “I couldn't be better looked after. The staff help me with general things and more besides. I am allowed to do my own thing, but I can get help when I need it. My room is kept clean for me I don't have to worry about it. The food is good and plenty of it.”

We were told there was good management and leadership at the service. Staff said there was a positive culture at the service and felt supported in their roles. One person said to us, “The manager keeps us all organised. She is always around. The staff like her.” Another relative added, “I couldn't speak highly enough of the manager. A very kind and approachable person who knows her job well. Just last week I had an issue with another resident. It was dealt with immediately and everything is back to normal. The atmosphere in the home is good for both staff and residents.”
