During a routine inspection

We spoke with six people (or their representative where they were unable to communicate themselves) to gain their views about their experience of the service provided by Border Cottage Care. All the people spoken with were very complimentary about the service with comments such as: 'Excellent, I really can't fault them;' 'I can't speak highly enough of this service;' and 'I can't imagine getting a care service any better than this one'

All of the people spoken with felt they were treated with dignity and respect and had their privacy maintained by all the staff. One person told us 'Border Cottage Care provides a very personalised service.' Another person described how their relative had a regular hairdresser but when she went on holiday the care workers did her hair for her to keep her looking nice.

Everyone spoken with confirmed they and their families were involved in their assessment and planning their care and support. One person told us 'We were involved in the discussions about my care and agreeing the care I needed.' Another person said 'The care workers and the managers are very good at communicating with family carers to keep each other informed of any changes.'

One person said 'The care workers have got to know our relative and they look after her very well.' Another person described how the service worked closely with other specialists to ensure people had the best possible care. The person explained 'My relative told the care workers that the hoist was uncomfortable. They informed their manager who visited and arranged for the therapy team to come and reassess the situation.'

All people spoken with said the care workers were good and trustworthy. They were very complimentary about the care workers, their managers and the standard of care and support they received from them. One person commented 'The care workers and the managers are great.'

People told us they knew who to speak to if they had any concerns or complaints and believed action would be taken. One person told us 'If I had a problem I would tell the care workers if it was something simple, or the managers if more complex. I am confident they would put things right.'
