All Inspections

21 February 2014

During a routine inspection

There were 19 people who used the service at the time of our inspection. We looked at supporting care documentation, records in relation to the management of the service and staff documentation. We observed care staff supporting people in the service. The registered manager was not present during the inspection. We spoke with the manager from another of the providers service, who was providing management support in their absence, a registered nurse who worked as a member of the organisation's bank staff, two care workers, a domestic assistant, a maintenance person, a cook, and six people who used the service. We subsequently spoke with the registered manager over the telephone, and who is referred to as manager in the report.

This told us people's care needs had been assessed and reviewed, and care and treatment had been planned and delivered as detailed in their individual care plan. Comments received from people who used the service included, 'They are all very nice. We have no concerns,' 'I am quite happy here,' and 'They are wonderful. They can't do enough for you.'

Infection control policies and procedures were in place to protect people. All the people we spoke with told us they thought the service was kept clean. One person commented, 'They clean here every day except Sunday.'

Appropriate arrangements were in place to ensure people were cared for in an environment that was adequately maintained.

People were cared for by staff who were well supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

During a routine inspection

There were 21 people who used the service at the time of our visit. We looked at supporting care documentation and staff documentation; we spoke with the registered manager who is referred to as manager in the report, two registered nurses, two senior care workers, a physiotherapist, a chef and six people who used the service. We observed care staff supporting people.

This told us where people had received any care or treatment they had been asked for their consent and the home's staff had acted in accordance with their wishes. People or their representatives had been involved in making decisions about their care and treatment.

People's care needs had been assessed and reviewed, and care and treatment had been planned and delivered in line with their individual care plan.

People's care had been provided by care staff who understood their care needs and who had been provided with training and support. Comments received included, 'They are marvellous,' 'They are very helpful,' and 'We have a good lot of carers.'

People were protected from the risks of inadequate nutrition and dehydration. Comments received included 'The food is very good,' and 'I like the soup in particular.'

Appropriate arrangements were in place in relation to obtaining, storing, administering handling and recording medicines.

Robust recruitment practices had been followed.

The records for the management of the home had been maintained and were accurate and complete.

5 March 2012

During a routine inspection

We spoke to four people using the service and one visiting relative, who told us that they were very happy with the care, provided and had been involved in the drawing up of their or their relatives care plan.

Some of the comments received were, 'very nice place to live,' 'it's marvellous,' 'its like a home,' 'they let us do what we want,' and 'amazed how comfortable my relative is.'

Staff members we spoke to told us that they were happy working in the home, that the team worked well together and that they had received the training and supervision they needed to meet individual people's care needs.
