During an inspection looking at part of the service

This report is supplementary to our report published in January 2013. We inspected this provider on 28 December 2012, when we noted some issues which had a moderate impact on people using the service. These related to standards regarding cleanliness and infection control, management of medicines, requirements relating to staff, and monitoring the quality of the service provision. We set compliance actions requiring the provider to take steps to comply with Regulations 10, 12, 13 and 21 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010.

We made a further visit on 8 May 2013 to check on the action the provider had taken to meet the requirements of the regulations. We found that the provider had taken appropriate and sufficient action to comply with the regulations.

28 December 2012 and 22 January 2013

During a routine inspection

We met with nine people following their appointments at the clinic and viewed seven people's records. We spoke with three nurses including the registered manager and also met with the Finance Director.

People told us 'Its fine,' 'It was recommended,' and 'They were very friendly and helpful.' They said 'I was given advice,' 'They were very flexible fitting me in with an appointment,' and 'They told me about side effects.' A small number of people said that occasionally you had to wait for your appointment. Overall people were very positive about the service received and the flexibility, cost, quality of advice and staff expertise.

However we were concerned that the clinic did not have sufficiently rigorous infection control, medicine management, staff recruitment and quality assurance procedures, which may place people using the service at risk.

During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us in the questionnaires they returned to the service that they were treated with dignity, respect and were involved in choosing the type of treatment they needed and when they required it. This was supported by an information pack that was explained to them during consultation.

They said they received quality treatment and support from friendly and competent staff and they felt safe receiving services provided. They told us that they had been contacted by the clinic to identify that they were satisfied with the service and staff delivering it.
